Shereen’s latest series of work, ‘Dreaming Of Sunshine’ is currently being displayed in her solo exhibition at Low Volume, London, N15 6RB.
10th February- 20th February 2023
Shereen Tabet is a Scottish Lebanese artist based in Hackney. Dreaming of Sunshine brings together a collection of her most recent paintings, inspired by a trip to El Cotillo, it's climate, topography of the landscape and map contour lines. Having completed a BSc Geography and MSc Speech and Language therapy, Shereen's practice combines both her love of the natural environment and intercommunication to convey her ideas on canvas. Using rich vibrant colour, embellished by narrative, symbolic markings and texture, she tells the story of her connections to the place and the relationships developed there.
'My dreamscapes depict memories of places from my past and heritage, sometimes reimagined through an abstract aerial birds eye view of the landscape, often observed with rose-tinted glasses, safely removed from the scene, creating an abstracted map of memories. Dreaming of Sunshine is something I think most people in the U.K often do around this time of year, when the days are shorter and colder. Mentally planning for a get away to the sun, or just remembering the longer summer days, makes people feel hopeful about life and the future. I hope these paintings bring a warm glow in these uncertain times and makes people feel a wee bit brighter’.
