‘This large piece, full of texture and collage, reflects on all of the different lives the landscape around us has lived. Always watching the different people, cultures, religions, come and go, sometimes mixing together and sometimes disappearing forever into history, leaving only little fragments of the past behind. The native aboriginal peoples of the archipelago, ‘Guanches’, African Berber tribes, believed in Animism, Polytheism and Astral religions. Certain places, rocks, mountains, volcanoes, stars and also trees were held sacred. Since this time, several other beliefs have been practiced in the Canary Islands, including Islam and Catholicism, currently most prevalent. El Cotillo, previously known as a small fishing village, is now a mecca for tourists, artists and van lifers, who flock to the island to enjoy the modern day spiritual practices of surfing and yoga.’

(Displayed at Shereen’s solo exhibition, ‘Dreaming of Sunshine’ at Low Volume, London)
